But the soundcard seems to have completely disappeared! There’s no "Sounds" section in Control Panel and I can’t find any mention of the soundcard I KNOW I had anywhere!
Any ideas?

I have a X-Fi XtremeGamer in Vista Ultimate. I get no sound from it. I know all the cables are working, I have tested them from my other computer with a X-Fi Platina running on XP. Vista says the card is working and Ive tried connecting a set of headphones and chose speaker output instead of SDPIF and it works.
Anyone know any solution to this?

An error has accured connecting to the network.. it ends with NWEC15 code.
Any ideas. this is frustrating. I’m trying to enjoy a peacefull moment at the coffee shop playing J.O. (which i’ve had no problem before this).

I’m still trying to sort out a previous problem, but thought I might as well put this one up also…lol.
Ok, I have Vista Home Premium. Windows Defender will not start with Vista, no matter what I do. Once bootup is complete, I can start it manually, and most of the time it stays put in the system tray, but sometimes it just dissapears on me.
Anyway, below is a log of what’s been happening, and what I’ve been doing about it….I’ve really just blindly gone about this, as safely as I know how (by not moving files, but rather copying them, and making sure they don’t overwrite anything)…
—————————
MSASCui.exe - Unable To Locate Component
—————————
This application has failed to start because MpClient.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
—————————
OK
—————————
I then made a copy of mpClient.dll from the WD folder, and moved it to the System32 folder. Upon startup, I got this message.
—————————
MSASCui.exe - Unable To Locate Component
—————————
This application has failed to start because MsMpRes.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
—————————
OK
—————————
So I made of copy of MsMpRes.dll, and did the same with that. Then got this message upon startup.
—————————
MSASCui.exe - Unable To Locate Component
—————————
This application has failed to start because MpRtMon.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
—————————
OK
—————————
So then I made a copy of that dll, and placed it in the system32 folder. Upon restart I got a funny little error box as in the screen shot below.

Can this be replaced or repaired?
I’ve been looking through the disc, also tried to force some sort of repair feature, but it only allows me to attempt to install the OS again.
If it cannot be repaired per se, is there a way to build a faux version?
